Visitors and animals enjoying the Oceanium thanks to C.A.R.S

With around 1.6 million visitors per year, the Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo in Rotterdam is one of the most popular attractions in the Netherlands, as well as being regards as one of the prettiest zoos in Europe. Thanks to C.A.R.S residents and visitors alike can enjoy clean and clear water.

An important part of the zoo is the Oceanium. Some eight million litres (2 million gallons) of sea water circulate through the Oceanium. Thanks to a unique circulation system, this entire water mass is filtered and pumped every two hours.

Two ozone installations were installed by the Verhoeve Milieu & Water company to treat the circulated water. An on-site C.A.R.S unit and a C.A.R.S main control station jointly ensure that the ozone installations continue to function at their best. This allows the residents of the Oceanium (such as sharks, tropical fish, corals, king penguins, sea lions, and polar bears) to enjoy clean and clear water, and only part of the sea water needs to be replaced every month.
